VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Speedway Junky (2001)
Director: Nickolas Perry
This tepid drama about street hustlers in Las Vegas plays like Gus Van Sant light -- which is appropriate considering he produced it. In a desperate attempt to pass this off as gritty, writer/director Nickolas Perry offers up a foul-mouthed Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Home Improvement) as a high-dollar bisexual call boy -- a stunt casting twist almost as ridiculously unconvincing as Daryl Hannah's junkie showgirl or Tiffani-Amber Thiessen's horny newlywed. Leads Johnny Bradford and Jordan Brower fare a little better, but there's really not a lot here to recommend. The DVD includes director's commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, cast and crew bios, trailer and widescreen format. Not rated, but R equivalent for adult subject matter, sexual content, drug use and violence.
